We asked Megan all about her role and journey with Cantarus, as well as her top tips for entering the world of marketing.
I'm a Content Marketing Executive at Cantarus. I originally joined the company as a Marketing Intern after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a degree in Journalism Studies. Now I work full-time on a mix of internal and client content.
My role covers a lot of ground: copywriting, social media, email marketing, event marketing, website content, content creation, content migration – you name it. I get to collaborate with teams across the business, which keeps things interesting and gives me loads of opportunities to learn.

During my journalism degree, I realised I enjoyed the creative side of communications more than traditional reporting. There were some marketing modules that I found really engaging, and that helped steer me in this direction.
I spotted the internship role at Cantarus straight out of finishing uni and it ended up being a great fit. It was originally a three-month contract focused on content migration, but I quickly found myself getting more involved in other areas. After a few months, I was offered a permanent position, which was a really exciting step for me and I was thrilled to be able to stay with the company and the team.
I usually start the day by checking emails, writing my to-do list, and having a quick catch-up with the team.
From there, I’ll usually be working on blogs – either writing my own or editing someone else’s – planning social content, updating our website, or pulling together our newsletter.
Sometimes I’ll be working on client content. Which can be anything from social audits to content migration.

Attending the MemberWise Digital Excellence Conference was a big one. It was my first major event with the team, and I helped set up our stand, represent the company, and network with people from the membership sector. It was a great learning experience.
I’ve also loved working on the Soldier Magazine project, which was my first project in which I led the content migration, and it felt like a huge progression in my role.
And of course, the Cantarus Christmas party has to get a mention – it's always great when the whole company can celebrate together.
Definitely copywriting and creativity, but also adaptability. One day I might be writing a blog about UX design, the next about platform integrations and APIs – it changes constantly, and you have to be willing to learn on the go.
Teamwork and collaboration are key too. I work with people from nearly every department, so being able to communicate clearly and manage different requests is really important.
Keep an open mind and don’t be afraid to try something new. Despite it being a marketing position, I knew it was in a digital agency and I didn’t know much about tech when I applied, but I learned quickly and ended up really enjoying it. You don’t need to be an expert straight away – you just need to be willing to learn.
