At Cantarus, we shape extraordinary experiences that drive long-term value for our clients and the communities they serve.

As an Umbraco Platinum Partner, we’re proud to work with a platform that embodies flexibility, scalability, and innovation. The Umbraco Impact Report 2024 doesn’t just highlight progress in content management technology – it shows how sustainability, inclusivity and collaboration are central to creating meaningful digital experiences.

Building the future of Content Management

Umbraco’s platform is evolving to meet the demands of modern digital landscapes. The 2024 report introduces four key innovation pillars:

  • Generative AI experimentation, enabling businesses to integrate AI flexibly and securely.
  • Reimagined search architecture, offering better indexing, querying and integration with external systems.

  • Personalisation with Umbraco Engage, now fully integrated into the core product, offering A/B testing, profiling and analytics for tailored digital experiences.

  • Orchestration capabilities, coming in 2025, to unify data from diverse sources while maintaining usability and scalability.

These advancements are not about following trends; they represent a foundation for future innovation, giving businesses control, scalability and adaptability in an ever-changing digital landscape.

Driving growth and recognition with a sustainable lens

In 2024, Umbraco’s revenue grew by 38% year-over-year, fuelled by strategic initiatives, an expanding partner ecosystem and increasing adoption of Umbraco Cloud in enterprise contexts. A standout example is the Carlsberg Pegasus framework, which consolidated over 500 brand websites into a single scalable, content-first platform.

This success underscores Umbraco’s unique blend of flexibility and simplicity – an approach that continues to resonate with clients worldwide.

Sustainability as a strategic priority

Sustainability isn't just an add-on; it’s a core principle in Umbraco’s strategy. The 2024 report highlights key initiatives:

  • Reducing operational emissions through supplier-specific data tracking and enhanced digital efficiency, including the adoption of .NET 9 and HybridCache technology.
  • Planting over 10,000 trees to symbolise contributions and offset emissions.
  • Offsetting emissions from Codegarden participants’ flights, while expanding remote and hybrid participation options.

The rebound effect, where improved digital efficiency can inadvertently lead to greater overall consumption, was a key point raised during a recent Umbraco webinar. This reminds us that sustainability must be actively managed, not assumed, and highlights the importance of combining efficiency gains with strategic restraint and policy advocacy.

The discussion also emphasised best practices for reducing digital footprints, such as lightweight design, clean code, caching strategies and minimal data transfers – all contributing to both environmental impact and performance improvements.

Community and collaboration: Core to Cantarus' approach

As a long-standing member of the Umbraco community, Cantarus thrives through close collaboration with developers, contributors, and advocates worldwide. Our development team is proudly led by an Umbraco MVP, reflecting our deep technical expertise and ongoing contribution to the platform’s evolution.

  • The addition of 23 new MVPs to the global network of Umbraco experts.
  • The U_Give program, supporting employees’ contributions to their communities through volunteering.

  • Expanded mentorship and educational partnerships, echoing our own commitment to nurturing talent and inclusivity.

Inclusivity and well-being also remain priorities, with initiatives ranging from ergonomic support and exercise programs to more sustainable and inclusive food options at events.

Why this matters for Cantarus and our clients

As an Umbraco Platinum Partner, we integrate the platform’s latest innovations with our expertise in UX, design and technical delivery to help clients succeed.

The insights from the Umbraco Impact Report 2024 and the broader conversation around digital sustainability are directly relevant to our work:

  • They inform how we approach complex digital transformations, ensuring scalability without sacrificing user experience or sustainability.
  • They guide our design and development processes, embedding performance, accessibility, and environmental considerations from day one.
  • They empower us to have meaningful conversations with clients about digital responsibility, challenging assumptions and co-creating solutions that align with their values and ESG goals.

Innovation with integrity

The Umbraco Impact Report 2024 makes it clear – the future of digital isn’t just about what we build, it’s about how and why we build it. Industry voices stressed the importance of going beyond technical efficiency to address systemic challenges, including honest communication about sustainability goals and advocating for structural changes such as carbon pricing.

We invite you to reflect on these key questions with us:

  • Are our digital solutions truly needed, and do they serve a meaningful purpose?
  • Are sustainability and accessibility integral to our strategy, not afterthoughts?

  • Are we ready to challenge the status quo and push for more responsible digital ecosystems?

We see this not just as a company mission, but as a collective responsibility – one that spans developers, designers, content creators, and businesses alike. By working together, we can build digital solutions that deliver for people, planet and purpose.
