Supporting a Multi-Platform Digital Estate with Reliable Data and Ongoing Support 

The Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC) is the national body for careers education in England, supporting schools, colleges, employers, and careers professionals to help young people take their next step with confidence. 

Digital platforms are central to this mission. CEC provides training, guidance, and resources through a network of online services that support thousands of education providers and young people nationwide. 

Rather than operating a single website, CEC manages a digital estate of more than 10 platforms – from the main corporate site to training portals and learning environments – each serving different audiences and priorities.  

CEC appointed Cantarus to provide ongoing support and maintenance for its corporate website on the Umbraco platform. Subsequently, Cantarus provided support with Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager setup across multiple CEC products. 

The Challenge 

With activity taking place across multiple domains and products, analytics tracking and reporting were configured across different Google Analytics views and Google Tag Manager containers. 

This multi-product environment meant tracking configurations, event setup, and reporting were managed across separate implementations. 

As platform usage evolved over time, analytics configurations and reporting structures continued to develop across products. 

Our Approach 

We began with a structured review of CEC’s website, assessing code quality, performance, SEO configuration, security configuration, and Umbraco setup. This documented the platform’s current implementation and informed ongoing support activity.

Training  

Training sessions were delivered to CEC teams and managers, covering: 

  • Analytics interpretation 
  • Understanding tracking configurations and datasets 
  • Use of reporting dashboards

Additional one-to-one walkthroughs were also provided to support interpretation of analytics data across platforms, including Compass+. 

Analytics Implementation 

  • Custom event tracking implementation 
  • Setup and configuration of Google Tag Manager containers  
  • Cross-domain tracking between platforms 
  • Management of tracking across multiple Google Analytics views 
  • Funnel setup to support tracking of email-driven landing page activity

Custom Reporting  

  • Consolidation of data from multiple views 
  • Reporting on engagement metrics across platforms 
  • Provision of regular reporting outputs  

Campaign Support 

Tracking configurations, including funnel setup, were applied to landing pages associated with email campaign activity. 


The Results 

Cross-domain tracking and custom event configuration are now in place across multiple CEC products, supported through configured Google Tag Manager containers and management across different Google Analytics views. 

Bespoke dashboards provide consolidated reporting across platforms, and training sessions have supported CEC teams in accessing and interpreting analytics data across products, including Compass+. 

Working with Cantarus has helped us strengthen our analytics setup across a number of platforms, with additional support provided through training for internal teams.
