The Institute of Directors (IoD) has over a century of experience supporting the UK’s professional leaders.

With over 34,000 members across the UK, the IoD is one of Britain’s most prestigious organisations at the forefront of British business. The IoD’s website needed to represent the Institute and its members, as well as reflect its prestigious nature and the high standards that define it. It needed to serve as a central hub, providing visitors with business news, thought leadership and high-level shareable content.

THE CHALLENGE.
The IoD’s existing website didn’t match the reputation of its service offering. IoD wanted a website that would convey a clear picture of exactly what it is the IoD do, and how they can benefit current and prospective customers.

The site’s inability to effectively promote IoD had the potential to harm the brand’s image, as well as impact membership sign-up rates. It quickly became clear that it wasn’t well-suited for their future plans. As such, together with our membership solutions partner Silverbear, we completely redesigned the IoD website to not only exceed their expectations but truly bring their visions to life.
We designed a new website that would firmly place the user at the centre of the online experience. We wanted the user to have full control, with a personalised experience across all devices.

The site was built to be linearly scalable in order to increase traffic, as well as ensure that users have a consistently exceptional digital experience. Our team completely overhauled IoD’s poorly defined information architecture, meaning the user can now find relevant, high-quality information quickly and easily. The new site is much easier to navigate, as well as seamless across all devices. We also ensured that all of IoD’s internal and external systems were fully integrated into the new platform, easing the transition between the two sites.

Internal users are just as important as external users – with this being said, we built the new site with a highly intuitive CMS (content management system), allowing staff of all IT abilities the ease of editing content, eliminating any content duplication throughout the site. Our solution not only provided a short-term upgrade on the existing site but was sufficiently flexible and agile to adapt to any future challenges and opportunities that IoD might face.
PUTTING THE USER IN CONTROL.
This was a very challenging project in terms of deliverables and timescales, but Cantarus and the IoD worked hard to ensure all targets and KPI's were met throughout the delivery programme.
