Raising the bar for membership engagement.

Delivering a prestigious new digital presence that has led to over 1,500 new members for the Institute of Directors.

Bringing the IOD’s Digital Presence Closer to their Highly Prestigious Image

The Institute of Directors (IoD) has over a century’s experience of supporting the UK’s professional leaders. With over 30,000 members and 48 regional branches across the UK, the IoD is regarded as one of Britain’s most prestigious organisations.

The IoD’s previous website didn't match the reputation of its service offering. IoD wanted their website to convey a clear picture of exactly what they do, and how they can benefit current and prospective customers.

The existing site's inability to effectively promote the IoD had the potential to harm the brand's image, as well as membership sign-up rates. As such, together with our membership solutions partner Silverbear, Cantarus was tasked with redesigning the IoD site to bring their vision to life.

Putting the User in control

After a successful discovery phase, we designed a new website for IoD that would firmly place the user at the centre of the experience. We wanted the user to be fully in control, with a personalised experience on all devices - mobile, tablet and desktop.

The site was also built to be linearly scalable in order to increase traffic, and ensure that users receive a consistently exceptional experience.

Our Development team completely overhauled IoD's information architecture, enabling the user to quickly find relevant information, such as the history of the organisation, or the benefits of becoming an IoD member, as these are areas of the site which needed to be readily available and easy to locate. We also made sure that all of the IoD’s internal and external systems were integrated into the new platform, easing the transition between the two websites.

Internal users are just as important as external users. This being said, we built the new site with an intuitive content management system, allowing staff of all IT abilities to edit content easily, eliminating any content duplication throughout the site. We implemented a solution that not only provided a short-term upgrade on the existing site, but was also sufficiently flexible and agile to adapt to future challenges and opportunities the IoD might face.

This was a very challenging project in terms of deliverables and timescales, but Cantarus and the IoD worked hard to ensure all targets and KPI's were met throughout the delivery programme.
